There has been a lot of talk this week regarding Angelina Jolie. A lot of that has been about talks regarding comic book movie properties. We learnt this week that Jolie apparently had been approached by both Marvel Studios and Warner Bros/DC to direct their first female superhero films Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman, respectively. Although the Jolie had been rumoured months ago this time things seemed a little more certain given that DC were also on the trail.

As of yesterday it seems as though Patty Jenkins will be taking over from Michelle MacLaren. MacLaren had been working on bringing a live action movie to life for Warner Bros. Last week it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that MacLaren had left the project. Warner Bros released a statement citing “creative differences” for the departure. There were a few rumors out there about MacLaren wanting a pet tiger for Wonder Woman to talk and others, but we won’t speculate here.

Now the torch seems to have passed onto Patty Jenkins meaning either WB/DC gave up on the chase for Jolie or Marvel are indeed close to signing her. Alternatively, Jolie has turned them both down. Considering Wonder Woman’s 2017 release date, WB/DC would have wanted to move quickly if they are going to get a script ready for a shoot sometime in 2016. The development of Jenkins taking the job is an interesting one considering she was initially attached to Thor: The Dark World before her and Marvel parted ways for “creative differences. Eventually the job was given to Alan Taylor. Its clear Jenkins is a fan of this world of superheros, I only wonder if she is able to work within the confines of a big studio film.

So, what about Jolie? Well she has currently directed 2 feature films both of which aren’t regarded as FRESH on Rotten Tomatoes (In the Land of Blood and Honey 55%, Unbroken 51%). Jolie has two more projects in the works, By the Sea is scheduled to release this year and a film called Africa which she will be working with her Husband Brad Pitt. If it does in fact come out this year or in 2016, which would give plenty of time for Jolie to hit Captain Marvel’s November 2018 release date. On top of all this it’s reported that Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) will be working together to pen a script. According to The Hollywood Reporter they both separate ideas which both impressed Marvel Studio’s and Kevin Feige and that’s what led to the team-up.
