Vega claws his way back into the Street Fighter spotlight. Attendees at Gamescom this week will be able to see the claw himself in action with a brand new playable build available at the PlayStation Booth in Hall 7 Booth C-020. The build will also include the recently announced new challenger, Necalli, along with returning characters Birdie and Nash, in addition to fan favourites Ken, Chun-Li, Ryu, Cammy and M. Bison.
Vega, still possessing his trademark speed and quickness, now has access to two distinct fighting modes: claw or no-claw. With the no-claw style giving him access to command grabs as well as new attack properties, players will need to toggle between both styles to pull off that winning KO at the end of the fight. Vega’s powerful V-Trigger is the Bloody Kiss, which sees him throw a rose at high velocity towards his opponent, before he charges at full speed right behind it, delivering a series of brutal attacks. This Spanish matador is definitely a fighter to keep your eye on – if you can.
The trailer nicely displayed some of Vega’s stylish combos as he bounced off the sides of the screen only to return the assault on his opponent floating helplessly mid-air. It looked to have ended with Vega’s V-Trigger, Bloody Kiss, and left some mystery to the application of his two play styles in more competitive match-ups.
Vega was the first character in the Street Fighter series to scale the stage and utilise it as a deadly tool to outmanoeuvre opponents and it should come as no surprise that a character with such a unique game style makes his way back onto this legendary fighting franchise. Now blonde with two varied play styles, he gains the advantage to pressure opponents to adjust their counter attack strategies alternating between the claw or no-claw stance. It should be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out in tournaments.
Street Fighter V will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and PC in Q1 2016.
