After the explosive episode in Star City last week, Legends Of Tomorrow showed promise of getting a lot better, but unfortunately this week it dove back down into its depths of “what the hell are we doing with this show” syndrome and in fact, it was so boring I actually fell asleep.
While deciding what time to travel to next, Rip gets a distress call from a fellow time traveller ship that has been stranded. Before really thinking things through, the team travel to help the crew and land in the middle of a trap and are confronted by space pirates (and yes it is as horrible and dull as it sounds!)
The main issue with this episode is that it had no connection to any conflict with Vandal Savage, this is meant to be a 13 part series, and here we have a filler episode that appears to be more of a homage to Star Trek than anything else. The space pirates were far from a formidable enemy and while they did provide a couple of ok fighting sequences, it was no major threat to the Legends.
What did work was the diminishing relationship between Captain Cold and Heatwave, the two have been inseparable, but since Cold clocked Heatwave over the head and dragged him out of Star City back to the Waverider against his will, it has certainly increased the drama. The final showdown between the two really hit home and I wish the episode had spent more time focusing on this.
The show only has 6 episodes left to take down Vandal Savage and possibly get a promotion to series regular on The CW network. While the ratings have been solid, it hasn’t done anything spectacular (BUT is higher than most shows on the network so who knows?)
Quote of the episode:
Rip Hunter: What stopped you?
Dr. Martin Stein: N.A.S.A. have rather strict guidelines regarding near sighted-ness.
Jax Jackson: And smoking weed.
