Nintendo Switch 2 date released

Nintendo hosted a direct in the early hours of this morning, showcasing all the latest specs, details and games for the launch of their new console the Nintendo Switch 2. Since the first teaser reveal earlier this year, we have been impatiently waiting for the full details and the time has finally come!

The direct went for an entire hour and covered the hardware and games releasing in the launch window. Let’s kick things off with the console itself.

The Switch 2 console is decked out with the below specs :

Nintendo fans, get ready! The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially on its way, and it’s bringing some serious upgrades. A bigger screen, snappier controllers, better graphics, and even more storage—this might just be the upgrade we’ve all been waiting for.

A Bigger, Prettier Screen

First up, let’s talk about that display. The Switch 2 now sports a 7.9-inch LCD screen (compared to the original’s 6.2 inches), and it finally runs at full HD 1080p. That means your favorite games will look sharper and smoother whether you’re playing on the go or docked at home. Oh, and despite the bigger screen, the console isn’t any thicker. Magic? Maybe.

Magnetic Joy-Cons That Snap Into Place

Say goodbye to wobbly Joy-Cons—Nintendo’s new Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically with a super satisfying snap. But that’s not all! These controllers have a neat trick: you can use them like a mouse by sliding them across a table (or even your pants). That could mean some fun new ways to aim in games. We can already hear the trick-shot montages.

A Better Kickstand and Extra USB-C Port

Remember that flimsy kickstand on the original Switch? Yeah, Nintendo fixed that. The Switch 2 now has a sturdy, adjustable stand, so you can prop it up at whatever angle works best. Plus, they finally added a second USB-C port—this one’s on top, making it easier to charge while playing in tabletop mode. Oh, and you can even connect a USB-C camera for video chatting on GameChat.

More Power, Less Waiting

Nintendo’s packing in faster processing power this time around, meaning smoother gameplay, better graphics, and way shorter load times. That means less waiting and more playing—exactly how it should be!

Crisp, 3D Audio for Better Sound

Nintendo has also upgraded the audio, making it clearer and more balanced. Whether you’re playing handheld or in tabletop mode, the sound will be more immersive and 3D-like, pulling you deeper into your games.

Way More Storage (Finally!)

One of the biggest gripes with the original Switch was storage. Well, Nintendo heard us loud and clear because the Switch 2 now comes with 256 GB of internal storage—that’s eight times what the original had! It also ditches regular microSD cards in favor of microSD Express, meaning way faster game loads.

Nintendo is bringing some serious heat with the Switch 2. A bigger screen, faster performance, better Joy-Cons, and more storage—it’s shaping up to be the ultimate version of the hybrid console we know and love. When it drops, it’s gonna be huge.

The BIG original Games

Mario Kart World

Blending the open world of games like Forza Horizon with the fun of the Mario Kart series, with the introduction of HD graphics and an open world concept, this looks like it will enter the crowded space of kart racers with Sonic and Kirby getting their own games around the same time (and who knows when Garfield Kart 2 will strike!)

Donkey Kong Bananza

Who would have seen an open world 3D Donkey Kong game coming? With the renewed interest after the success of the Super Mario Bros Movie and remaster of the Country games on the Switch, it was the perfect time to bring back the first 3D game since DK 64, the trailer shows our favourite Kong with Hulk-like powers smashing everything in sight. The game will release on the 17th of July this year, a little over a month after the release of the console.

The Duskbloods

From Software have made the jump from Playstation to Nintendo, bringing a game that is definitely not Bloodborne II, it just looks that way. A dark gothic underworld with fantastical looking creatures, sign us up!

Kirby Air Raiders

A sequel to the GameCube title, Kirby will join the racing genre with Air Raiders. There was no date reveal at this stage and a CGI release trailer for now.

Third Party Spotlight

When the first Nintendo Switch was release, the third party support was virtually non existent. This time around nearly 10 years later, the support is off swinging straight out of the gate. From big titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring and Hitman : World of Assassination, looks like there will be a ton of games to take on the go with Switch 2.

The party will continue tonight with the Treehouse Live event from 1am AEDT on the Nintendo Youtube channel, live gameplay from these upcoming titles including Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World will be streamed live. You can view it here

So that’s it, all of the BIG announcements at the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, are you excited to dive into Nintendo’s next console?

Sinners Review

Ryan Coogler’s film "Sinners" reinvents the vampire narrative, using these creatures to symbolize assimilation. Set in the American South, it follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack as they aim to establish a juke joint. Interwoven with Delta Blues music, the film explores deep themes of cultural heritage, oppression, and exploitation, culminating in a visually stunning climax.
