Telltale Creating a Marvel Game

Today the folks over at Telltale games have announced that they have teamed up with Marvel Games. Their statement from the developer’s website reads as follows.

“Announced this evening in San Francisco, we’re excited to reveal an all-new partnership with the incredible team at Marvel Entertainment. We’ll be teaming up on the development of an upcoming Telltale game series project set to premiere in 2017!”

For those that don’t know, Telltale are a highly regarding game studio that create episodic point-and-click adventure games which of recent times have been both financial and critical successes. Telltale tend to partner with companies that have brand recognition, their previous games have been The Walking Dead (season 1 and 2), The Wolf Among Us and are currently releasing their Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands series’. This is not to mention their already announced story mode they are creating for Minecraft and another season of The Walking Dead. Plus, they made a deal earlier this year to bring a property owned by Lionsgate (The Hunger Games, Twighlight) into their gaming library.

Over at IGN they got to speak with Executive Producer Jones from Marvel Games. He said in the article that “It takes a long time to find the right partner…” He continued by praising Telltale’s storytelling and saying in terms of the games Marvel wants to make, it has to “ turn heads, if it doesn’t get you excited to talk with your friends, it’s not a Marvel game. It has to command attention”.

So here’s my two cents. I love Telltale. I love Marvel. But I am starting to worry about how much pressure this studio puts onto itself. They have two series’ halfway through release and 4 projects lined up in development. Who knows if they are planning on a Wolf Among Us second season. Is it possible to oversaturate a market like this just by one studio? I don’t think so, but with games like Life is Strange coming out, this is a genre that could pick up really fast.

Sinners Review

Ryan Coogler’s film "Sinners" reinvents the vampire narrative, using these creatures to symbolize assimilation. Set in the American South, it follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack as they aim to establish a juke joint. Interwoven with Delta Blues music, the film explores deep themes of cultural heritage, oppression, and exploitation, culminating in a visually stunning climax.
