25 for 2025 : Pat’s Upcoming Films to Look Out For

2025 has kicked off with a bang! Literally, did you see those fireworks? What a party night to be had! With the dreaded impending doom of heading back to work for the year ahead fast approaching I have scoured the lists of upcoming movies releasing this year and given you 25 of the most anticipated.

  • Nosferatu
    • A New Year’s special, this one is already in cinemas nationally as of Jan 1. It is for lovers of gothic horror. A remake of the 1922 classic, it is bound to become the next generation’s Dracula epic. You can read my review here
  • Den of Thieves: Pantera
    • I loved the original and cannot get enough of Gerard Butler in action mode. Butlerā€™s character has enough of being the hunter and wants a bigger payday swapping to the other side of the law. Big cast, big action, sign me up!
  • Captain America: Brave New World
    • The superhero era is over, there is no denying that the magic Marvel once brought has well and truly been tapped and run dry, but the inclusion of Harrison Ford as Red Hulk has me intrigued. Who knows it may be at least a fun 90 minutes.
  • Wolfman
    • Yes, another reboot is on the way, but small-set horror always does something for me. A family trapped in a cabin in the woods as the one they love who should protect them turns into something that wants to tear them apart! There are plenty of thrills to be had, with director Leigh Wannell at the helm, this does give me a little hope.
  • Sinners
    • Another horror/thriller on the list. Twin brothers return to their hometown attempting to leave a troubled existence behind only to find an unspeakable evil is waiting for them. Michael B. Jordan reunites with Ryan Coogler for this one.
  • Mickey 17
    • Finally, a new idea out of Hollywood, though based on a book. Robert Pattinson is sent to a far-off world covered in Ice to try and colonise it by sending clones of himself out into the wilds. The clones are disposable in this dark comedy that will leave us laughing at things we probably shouldnā€™t. Bong Joon-ho’s follow up to the Oscar winning Parasite sets the bar very high.
  • Ballerina
    • From the world of John Wick, is there really more we need to say? Put it on your lists, and watch it. The movies takes place between John Wick chapters 3 and 4 it looks to be the stepping stone for a new character arc with Keanu hanging up the P30L.
  • Novocaine
    • Jack Quaid leads this quirky action comedy about a man who cannot feel pain using that to his advantage when the girl of his dreams is kidnapped forcing him to fight to get her back. This movie promises big action set pieces and looks to be extremely over the top, right up my alley.
  • Thunderbolts
    • The Marvel Universe keeps on trucking along and it is time for the anti-heroes to have a crack. Pulling in those with more questionable morals the Thunderbolts are out to save the world. Another for the switch off and enjoy pile I’m just hoping for a bit of fun with this one.
  • Lilo & Stitch (Live action)
    • Why Disney just why. One of the most beloved creations in recent cinema Stitch is getting the live action treatment, itā€™s not going to reach the heights of the original, it wonā€™t get close to Sonic, but the kids will enjoy it at least. Even if Stich looks vaguely frightening now.
  • Superman
    • James Gunn tries to bring his Guardians magic over to the DCU. Superman is the embodiment of kindness, truth and justice trying to bring it into a world that sees it all as old-fashioned. Time will tell if this is a worthy reboot or another misstep from DC.
  • Jurassic World Rebirth
    • Ok Iā€™ll admit these are a guilty pleasure of mine. We never learn. Earth has proven to be inhospitable to Dinosaurs and those that have remained are living in areas closer resembling the climate in which they once thrived. Of course, greed comes out as it is discovered the dinosaurs hold a secret to a drug that will help humankind. No trailer yet but expect it to drop soon!
  • 28 Years Later
    • The third installment in the 28 Days Later film series comes back bigger and faster showing us all what has been happening in the years since the zombie outbreak. The original director Danny Boyle is back and this one stars Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Cillian Murphy.
  • In The Grey
    • Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, written and directed by Guy Ritchie this just screams a great time. Extraction experts are planning an escape route for a negotiator but there is always something churning away in the background with a twist throwing everything into chaos. Originally slated for a January release it has been moved and as of writing, there is not much official info online for this one. We will of course keep you updated as more information comes to light.
  • How to Train Your Dragon (Live Action)
    • Another live-action remake no one asked for. The trailer at least looks fun and again the kids are excited so will end up on my watched list. The Viking town of Berk and its dragons will be interesting to see again on the big screen.
  • A Minecraft Movie
    • I am going to call this now and we are looking at a critical flop but will make a fortune at the cinemas due to the juggernaut that is Minecraft. Jack Black leads a strong cast of adventurers who need to save the world from the Ender Dragon. Itā€™s going to be fun, but leave your brain at home.
  • The Fantastic Four
    • Fans have been screaming for the studios to get it right with this superfamily and a trip to an alternate 1960ā€™s may hold the key. Pedro Pascal will need all his charm and brilliance to keep this one afloat as they once again look to take on the silver surfer.
  • Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy
    • Ok I admit, this one isnā€™t for me but my wife is looking forward to it and I am sure to have to sit through it at some point. After all, the original 3 have been a massive hit. Bridget finds herself alone again as a middle aged widow and single mother. Looking to try and find love again she forges a new path forward in an uncertain dating world.
  • The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep
    • Ok ok, so I am cheating a bit here with an animated Netflix movie but more Witcher in my world is a good thing. Geralt is hired to investigate suspected monster attacks in a seaside village and must solve a mystery to stop all out war.
  • Wicked : For Good
    • Part 2 of the worldwide phenomenon that gripped musical and movie lovers alike this year. I went in expecting to hate it and was pleasantly surprised. Who else has sided with the witch? We know it is coming in November but that is about all at the moment.
  • The Gorge
    • This looks like a strange one but seems intriguing enough. Expert snipers are tasked with standing watch over a giant chasm, one from the US and the other from Eastern Europe. They donā€™t communicate with each other or report on anything happening within. Of course, they form a relationship of sorts from either side of the giant hole in the ground. Oh, BTW the chasm is the doorway to hell.
  • Happy Gilmore 2
    • Returning after too many years that I refuse to count, the man who changed golf and thankfully killed a clown is back. Adam Sandler returns along with some familiar faces from the original. We donā€™t know a whole lot yet, but big laughs are expected.
  • Death of a Unicorn
    • I donā€™t know what direction this one is going. All I know is I wanna see it! While driving through a nature reserve father and daughter hit a creature they later find out is a Unicorn, a real-life Unicorn. The problems start when the Unicorn’s parents show up looking for their child. Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega lead an all-star cast for this twisted little gem.
  • Avatar: Fire and Ash
    • When the original Avatar released it was a technical marvel despite its lackluster familiar story it went on to break records. We had to wait too long for the second to blow us away in the same way but it still smashed the box office. My love of the world created and technicality of the process trumps all else and I will be lining up for this one, yes in 3D too.
  • Snow White
    • No list would be complete without this upcoming film. Rachel Ziegler’s portrayal of a beloved princess has sparked significant public debate, with some of her remarks about the character and fans drawing mixed reactions. While the film faces considerable challenges, I remain focused on whether it will ultimately be an entertaining experience. Though my expectations are tempered, Iā€™m curious to see how it turns out.

There you have it, 25 movies coming out this year I am looking forward to digging my eyes into. I could have gone on as there are so many rumoured to be coming that we have no or very little info about, but I would have kept you here all day.

Let us know in the comments or on our socials of your most anticipated for the year ahead!
