What else do you need to sell you on a mindless action movie that’s full of fun?
Bullet Train is the latest movie to come from David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Hobbs
& Shaw) starring an all-star cast of Brad Pitt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey
King, Zazie Beatz, Brian Tyree Henry and many more. It’s set upon a simple
job, a job that consists of a snatch and grabbing the briefcase on a Bullet
Train. But it doesn’t become so simple for too long as it soon unravels itself
into a complicated situation of a bunch of assassins on the same train out for
various objectives that are to try and kill each other.
It’s a movie filled with maddening stunts, action and an s#@% ton of blood
making it something that you don’t want to miss.
To keep it simple, however, is an understatement, as this movie becomes
something that is filled to the brim with bloody action, yet it can’t provide much
of a story to engulf you in what it’s trying to tell. This film tries to tell its story in
a fairly incoherent way through multiple storylines from the various characters
throughout the movie, taking it to a setting of where it involves so much
the connection that it makes sense, yet it lacks the ability to feel engaging in areas
as it sets itself around so much detail, there’s no room or ability to see know
whether the movie will go further and so you have to just ride it out until you
reach your stop at times.
But what you end up being there for, however, is this mindless, witty movie
featuring an all-star cast of assassins having a go at it with each other as they
all target the briefcase full of money. It does not take it too seriously as the
the whole idea is poking fun at this wacky concept of each other’s vastly different
backstories and their purpose for being on that train together as they all battle
it out on a who’s got the case situation and will properly succeed upon the
completion of their contract. It’s never there to take itself seriously, it’s just
there to have fun and provide a movie that has charming characters with
various skills and abilities that help make this film an entertaining ride.
With an all-star cast comprising Brad Pitt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King,
Zazie Beatz, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael
Shannon and Benito A Martínez Ocasio all equally bring these characters
to the screen brilliantly. In a movie packed full of people, each one was
distinguishable through the characteristics that drive them to do what they do.
Some even become quite loveable based on their portrayal and chemistry with
each other, whilst others become disliked quite easily. Making it easy to get
sucked into the movie and the well-developed backgrounds that make them all
unique.
It’s an action-packed movie that is put in a (mostly) simple setting, with
the goal of providing some well-choreographed action. Its story isn’t a concisely
an integral part of the movie, but its setting is under a small scope that has instead
settled with focussing on offering something that is filled with comedic dialogue
and expresses itself through epic over-the-top stunts that are also remarkably
reminiscent of classic old-school martial arts movies. The cast as well provides
some excellent performances at bringing these witty characters to the screen
making it all wrapped up into something that is pure mindless fun with a lot of
blood.
It’s simply a blast, and whilst having a little bit of an incoherent story, it still
provides some epic action.
