Trailer Interview – Puss In Boots: The Last Wish with director Joel Crawford

For the global release of the Puss In Boots: The Last Wish trailer this week, the amazing team at Universal Pictures allowed me to check out the trailer early and have a quick chat with the film’s director, Joel Crawford!

Check out the new trailer here:

For the first time in more than a decade, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the Shrek universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet.

When asked about working with Antonio Banderas, who has voiced the character of Puss for almost 20 years now, Joel said the process was ‘an exciting collaboration’ in which both the director and the star got to evolve the character together throughout the making of the film!

Joel also revealed the incredible cast that he had mustered up for this film – including the return of Salma Hayek as Kitty Soft Paws! Joel relished in the idea that he had the perfect casting for a ‘crime-family’ take on the 3 bears from the tale of Goldilocks, with actors Ray Winstone, Olivia Colman and Florence Pugh playing the bears! And with the additions of John Mulaney, Harvey Guillen and Wagner Moura rounding out the stacked cast, the excitement between Joel and myself was at an all time high!

With his directorial debut in The Croods 2, and having worked as a story artist on Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, Joel revealed he was excited to put his stamp on the ‘fracture fairytale world of Shrek‘, and that working in animation is a dream for a guy who simply ‘just likes to draw and tell great stories’!

Needless to say, after watching this hilarious trailer and having an incredibly high-energy and excitement filled conversation with Joel, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish looks like it’s going to be an absolute riot when it hits Australian cinemas on September 15.
