The BAFTAs are upon us once again. The awards (pictured above) are still really creepy. 2016’s ceremony was more controversial than most, with Rebel Wilson and Stephen Fry both under fire for inappropriate jokes while hosting. That’s neither here or there for those who won a trophy/mask.
The BAFTAs are special for recognising films that would usually be overlooked by the Academy. The EE Rising Star nominees included Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Taron Edgerton, 50 Shades of Grey‘s Dakota Johnson and Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ John Boyega. Star Wars was nominated for Best Sound, Best Original Music and Best Production Design, and won Best Visual Effects. Take that Oscars!
It all points towards Leo getting the gold on the big night, with himself, his film and his director all winning big at the BAFTAs. Disney scores with Inside Out and Brooklyn, produced by the BBC, collects Outstanding British Picture. That will be one dull victory party.
Here are nine of the more interesting categories from yesterday’s BAFTAs:
