Assassin’s Creed Shadows Coming to Nintendo Switch 2

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025, marking the franchise’s debut on the next-generation handheld. The game will be fully optimised for the Switch 2’s hybrid design, offering seamless play across TV, tabletop, and handheld modes.

According to Ubisoft, the Switch 2 version will also support touch controls, allowing more interaction and more intuitive access to menus, maps, and the hideout interface. There will also be access to all previously released content updates being included from day one, with the Claws of Awaji expansion arriving early in 2026.

“We are delighted to bring Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Nintendo players,” said Charles Benoit, Game Director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. “Whether slipping through the shadows as Naoe or facing foes head-on as Yasuke, players will be able to roam the streets and rooftops of feudal Japan at home or anywhere their journey takes them on Nintendo Switch 2.”

At launch, you will be able to purchase Assassin’s Creed Shadows physically—with a game key card—or digitally via the Nintendo eShop. The title will also support cross-progression through Ubisoft Connect, so you can continue your adventure across multiple platforms without losing progress.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues the long line of current-gen titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Cyberpunk 2077, running not only on the Switch 2 but also incredibly well, showcasing that Nintendo is a strong contender to keep the handheld market alive with its hardware.

Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes players to feudal Japan, here you can explore a richly detailed world powered by Ubisoft’s Anvil engine. The story follows two playable characters: Naoe, a nimble shinobi assassin skilled in stealth, and Yasuke, a formidable samurai warrior who favours direct combat. Players can freely switch between the two heroes as they uncover their intertwined destinies and shape a new era for Japan. You can read our review on the PS5 version of the game here

Already available on platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Mac (Apple Silicon), Amazon Luna, and Ubisoft+, Assassin’s Creed Shadows brings the full next-gen experience to Nintendo’s upcoming console—complete with portable performance and console-quality visuals.
