Games Going Green

Last year there was a big shock to the Australian Games Industry. The Abbot Government came out and announced that they were going to cut funding to many creative industries. Unfortunately this included our games industry. Yesterday however, it was announced that “The Australian Greens have secured a Senate Inquiry into the Australian video games development industry.”

Among the things deputy leader and communications spokesperson Scott Ludlam stated that “Internationally, companies have experienced strong growth thanks to smart government support and favourable regulatory settings”. Like many views out there, Ludlam suggests that this sector has been treated like “the poor cousin of the creative industries”. Ludlam insists that he is “looking forward to working with the committee to do what he can to help get the industry back on its feet”.

This is great news for all gamers out there, but especially those creators who lost upwards of $20 million in funding. Funding that was only available for 12 months before it was taken away. Be sure to send your support to @SenatorLudlam and show that it’s greatly appreciated.
