Cinephiles, get ready — HOYTS is dialling movie season up to eleven this summer with not one, not two, but four brand-new IMAX® with Laser screens opening across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. And yes, one of them is literally around the corner from us at the Novastream office (convenient, right?).
The Big Rollout
The expansion kicks off mid-November at HOYTS Chadstone, just in time for the mega-musical Wicked: For Good. From there, three more locations will light up the big screen experience in December:
- HOYTS Chadstone (VIC) – opening mid-November
- HOYTS Carousel (WA) – opening mid-December
- HOYTS Melbourne Central (VIC) – opening mid-December (we’ll be first in line at this one!)
- HOYTS Blacktown (NSW) – opening mid-December
Why It’s a Big Deal
IMAX with Laser isn’t just marketing hype — we’re talking sharper, brighter, more colourful images, next-gen sound you’ll feel in your bones, and seats so comfy you might just forget you’re not at home. (Except your couch doesn’t come with a six-storey-tall screen of Avatar: Fire and Ash.)
HOYTS Group CEO Damian Keogh said the move is all about giving audiences the very best:
“HOYTS is delighted to partner with IMAX to introduce four new screens across Australia, giving movie lovers even more ways to enjoy blockbusters on the big screen.”
IMAX boss Rich Gelfond couldn’t agree more, calling this the perfect timing for Avatar: Fire and Ash in December — and teasing a massive 2026 slate.
What’s Playing?
Your summer movie calendar just got stacked. Here are the IMAX highlights to look forward to:
- The Running Man – 13 November 2025
- Wicked: For Good – 20 November 2025
- Zootopia 2 – 27 November 2025
- Avatar: Fire and Ash – 18 December 2025
Big Screens, Bigger Fun
With these new launches, HOYTS is doubling IMAX’s Australian presence and giving film fans the most immersive way to experience the blockbusters we’ve all been waiting for.
And if you happen to swing by Melbourne Central — don’t be surprised if you bump into one of us from Novastream, popcorn in hand, claiming “it’s for research.”
