San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H is no stranger to “earth-shattering” reveals, but Marvel Studios just reset the bar. President Kevin Feige took to the stage this weekend to effectively map out the next era of the MCU, delivering a sequence of announcements that left the 6,000-plus fans in attendance (and the rest of the internet), in a state of absolute shock.
From the return of a legendary face to the crowning of a new King of Wakanda, here is everything you need to know from the Marvel Studios showcase.
The Return of the King: Robert Downey Jr. is Victor von Doom
The panel confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday will see heroes from three distinct universes on a collision course against an existential threat. The cast list is a literal who’s who of the Marvel multiverse, featuring Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, and even Hayley Atwell confirming her return as Peggy Carter.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2026.
Hell on Wheels: Ryan Gosling is Ghost Rider
The rumors can finally be laid to rest. Kevin Feige officially announced that a new Ghost Rider film is in development, bringing Ryan Gosling into the fold as the Spirit of Vengeance.
Joining Gosling on stage was director Shawn Levy, fresh off the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. The duo, who are also working together on Star Wars: Starfighter, confirmed the film is eyeing a 2028 release with a script currently being penned by Jonathan Tropper.
A New Black Panther Emerges
To close out the night, Ryan Coogler took the stage to discuss the future of Wakanda. While we knew Black Panther 3 was on the horizon, we didn’t know who would be wearing the suit.
In a move that caught everyone off guard, Coogler introduced David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus, Industry) as the MCU’s new Black Panther. It was an emotional reveal, supported by returning stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. We can expect to see the next chapter of the Wakandan epic in cinemas on December 14, 2028.
Spidey and The Punisher
While much of the focus was on the distant future, Sony and Marvel reminded us that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just around the corner. Jon Bernthal made a surprise appearance to preview his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher in the upcoming film, which is slated for a July 30, 2026 release.
