Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the highly anticipated third entry in Rian Johnson’s acclaimed whodunnit series. Daniel Craig returns as the enigmatic detective Benoit Blanc in what is being billed as his most dangerous and darkest case yet.

A New Case with a Sinister Edge

This latest installment sees Blanc called to a small town shaken by a shocking and seemingly impossible murder. At the heart of the story is young priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor), who is sent to work under the fiery Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin). But it doesn’t take long before tensions among Wicks’s devoted flock hint that all is not well in the church pews.

The congregation is a colourful mix of characters, including Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close), the steadfast church matron; Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church), a suspiciously watchful groundskeeper; and lawyer Vera Draven (Kerry Washington), alongside her ambitious politician brother Cy (Daryl McCormack). Adding to the intrigue are town doctor Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner), celebrated author Lee Ross (Andrew Scott), and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny).

When murder strikes, local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) teams up with Blanc to uncover a mystery that defies logic and threatens to tear the town apart.

Johnson’s Darkest Knives Out Yet

Writer-director Rian Johnson, who scored Oscar nominations for earlier entries in the series, promises a darker and more intense tone for Blanc’s latest outing. Once again, Johnson assembles a powerhouse cast blending Hollywood veterans and rising stars, all of whom seem poised to play crucial parts in the twisted puzzle.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is produced by Johnson and longtime collaborator Ram Bergman, continuing their creative partnership that has defined the franchise.

The trailer teases high drama, eerie church settings, and Blanc navigating a case with stakes unlike any he has faced before. Fans can expect the trademark mix of sharp dialogue, eccentric characters, and mind-bending twists—this time cloaked in even darker shadows.
