After months of naysayers and Fairfax (Stan) and Newscorp (Foxtel) throwing articles around condemning the launch of Netflix and their supposed “limited library” the time has finally come to reveal their Australian offering and it is safe to say I am nothing but impressed with their initial releases and look forward to the daily, weekly and monthly updates the TV streaming giant will be bringing to Australia.
We can confirm that the leaked images yesterday were 100% correct and have delivered a varied roster of titles that will suit any tastes. From Netflix produced shows like Orange Is The New Black, House Of Cards and new comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, to Pixar, Disney and recent films like Maleficent, Need For Speed, Gravity, Captain America Winter Soldier and 22 Jump Street.
Netflix are offering one months free for new members, and if you happen to have been VPN’ing their service, you can remove the DNS re-routes and Netflix will refresh with the Australian content, without having to make a new account!
So why should you get Netflix? If you like movies and TV then this really is the most affordable and diverse option for you. There is a separate kids section, so the littlies can avoid seeing things like American Horror Story and Keeping Up With The Kardashians (and no it is not a crossover show!), if you purchase the 2 or 4 accounts, you can make separate profiles for different people and have different lists. You can also link this to your Facebook and recommend TV shows for friends and family, as well as spy on their recently watched list.
Netflix AU is a solid first entry into the streaming market and with promised daily, weekly and monthly updates to the library, it shouldn’t be too long before we see a fully fledged streaming service that will encourage strong competition in the Australian market.
