A staple festival in Brisbane’s ever growing film scene, the New Farm Queer Film Festival goes from strength to strength after it’s wildly successful previous years, delivering in 2024, the biggest line up of queer films from all over the world, and highlighting even more homegrown LGBTQIA+ stories than any other film festival in the country!
With 19 films announced over it’s 10 day run between October 3 – 13, NFQFF features Australian and Queensland premieres of global festival hits including Elliot Page’s trans-drama CLOSE TO YOU; the Silver Bear Jury Prize winner for cinematography at the Berlin Film Festival THE DEVIL’S BATH; and opening the festival at the Black Carpet premiere is the Georgian film CROSSING.
Highlights of the festival also include 4K restorations of Gregg Araki’s TEENAGE APOCALYPSE TRILOGY and French filmmaker Francois Ozon’s transgressive first three films, also newly restored, along with a spotlight feature of Alice Maio Mackay, who’s Australian trans-centric films T-BLOCKERS and SATANIC PANIC both will have their Queensland premieres at the festival. And the much talked about THE PEOPLE’S JOKER from Vera Drew will be showing!

In 2016, Ben Affleck's movie The Accountant received mixed reviews but became a personal favorite. It follows Christian Wolff, an autistic forensic accountant. A sequel, The Accountant 2, showcases Christian teaming up with his brother to solve a murder. The film promises enhanced action and releases on April 24th.
Sega showcased gameplay for Sonic Racing: Crossworlds during Playstation's State of Play. The game boasts the largest character roster in the franchise and reintroduces dynamic courses allowing transitions across land, air, and water. Travel rings inspired by the Sonic films will enable shifting between varied CrossWorlds. It's set to release on multiple platforms.
*Mad About the Boy* rejuvenates the Bridget Jones franchise, delivering a blend of humor and grief as Bridget navigates single motherhood after losing Mark Darcy. Renée Zellweger shines, supported by a sharp script and engaging characters. The film balances laughter with poignant moments, reaffirming Bridget's relatability and resilience in a compelling narrative.
