There is no denying that The X-Files was a cultural phenomenon. It created a generation of people who asked the questions that to many believed to be crack pot theories, bringing them into the main stream light and helped shape science fiction far beyond its prime-time viewing slot. In the days before streaming The X-Files was a weekly tradition, life was moved around so that we could be ready when the opening cords struck.
2008 The X-Files I Want to Believe was originally released, getting somewhat middling reviews as it moved away from some of the core staples of the series predominantly its extraterrestrial and cryptid mythos, instead opting for a standalone horror-thriller story and bringing Mulder and Skully back into the FBI fold to help find a missing agent as the only lead available to them is a disgraced priest who is claiming to have horrific visions of the crimes being committed.
Unfortunately at the time, some TV executive wrangled series creator Chris Carter into toning down his original concept and horror elements for the movie which ultimately lead to it being a pretty weak plot and leaving way too much promise on the cutting room floor.
Now, 18 years later we will finally get to see Chris Carters original vision with the release of The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn, a directors cut of the original and if the trailer below is anything to go by it looks darker and more menacing than ever before. We only have to wait until August 15th to be able to see it too.
