Duncan Jones has came out and confirmed that his movie, Warcraft, based off the popular video game franchise, World of Warcraft, has shifted it’s release date. Originally slated for March 11th 2016, Universal have now placed it directly in the middle of the American summer season on June 10th.
Considering how much of a big production this is I thought they would get more money with less competition in March. That being said Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is getting released two weeks later on the 26th of March. Most movies these days make most of there money in the first 2 or 3 weeks. So I’m not sure why move it into the middle of all these other movies in June. Duncan Jones did say he was looking for a cross between Avatar and Lord of the Rings for visual effects and storytelling. Which is a massive undertaking. This film however finished shooting back in May last year. So with at least a year of post production in the can and another 14 months until it’s release. I can’t imagine what the special effects will look like.
On another note Universal also announced that Pacific Rim 2 has moved its release date from April 7th 2017 to August 4th 2017. That’s all good i believe but this could get moved again so let’s not waste time speculating on this.
I wasn’t a great fan of the first Pacific Rim. People like it because of robots fighting monsters. People would tell to “not worry about the acting or the story” etc. I just never agreed with that sentiment. Blockbuster films these days are getting smarter and more sophisticated. Think of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Interstellar (whether you are a fan of it or not). Movies like Transformers: Age of Extinction and Pacific Rim shouldn’t just rely it’s visuals because that doesn’t make a good movie. If Guillermo del Toro does direct the sequel i hope he steps up his game.
