Ninja FrostVault Review: The Ultimate Summer Cooler

Ninja have released their new range of eskies in Australia just in time for your New Year BBQ’s and summer catch ups. The company have revolutionised kitchens with their industry-leading products that punch in intuitive tech and really think of everything you need when you are using their appliances. The Ninja FrostVault is no exception, with a mammoth capacity for storing drinks encased in ice with an incredibly impressive hold time. In addition there are cold drawers that allow you to store other items and keep them cool and dry using the temperature from the ice. It’s an incredibly impressive esky with a ton of features that make it the ultimate summer companion.

The Specs

Coming in at 12.9kg it is a little on the heavier side, you can manage it empty on your own, however for safety and definitely if full, you will need a friend to help you get through. The 47L model is 44cm wide, 83cm deep and 48cm in height. There is also a smaller model 28L that is 48cm wide, 62cm deep and 48cm in height. You can fit 2 – 3 bags of service station ice into the main compartment and I was able to fit in nearly 40 cans and have them encased in ice. Beneath the main compartment are two Cold Drawers, located directly under the main cavity of the unit. They both pull out and are designed to hold items and keep them dry. This is ideal for meat for BBQs, snacks and anything else you need to keep cold and dry.

A complete cooling system

We have been fortunate enough to have some 30+ degree days in preparation for summer this year, I was able to have some friends over and put this to the test. The FrostVault was in the open sun and the oce was still intact 3 days later. By the fourth day, there was still some ice, but the cans were still cool and the dry drawer still had a cool temperature of 3 degrees Celsius.

Both the main drinks portion and the drawers were consistently open and closed throughout the day so it was put through a regular amount of use. If you were taking it camping or to a weekend away, and weren’t opening it as much, this gave me a whole extra day use out of it.

When you are looking at this as more than just an esky, the dry drawers are the best feature of the FrostVault. Being able to keep meat cold and cheeses for a charcuterie board were able to stay in here for a few days at fridge equivalent temperature.

Design

The square design for the FrostVault is typical of eskies from competitors like Yeti. It is quite heavy when empty or full, so you do need to keep that in mind when organising your day out. The handle snaps and locks into place which keeps everything securely in place and keeps the cold in. There is a sliding handle that also locks the dry drawers into place, making sure that they can’t open or slide around during transportation.

It comes in three colours cloud white, lakeshore blue and slate grey. The model I am reviewing is cloud white, and the black handles and trim offset the white perfectly.

The Ninja FrostVault is the ultimate esky to not only keep your drinks cool, but your meat and other food cool and dry as well. It’s hard to imagine that anything could withstand the Australian summer for anymore than a outdoor lunch, fortunately, Ninja has created the perfect cooler to take on a weekend away and not be worried about keeping your drinks and food cold. While it is hefty, the sturdy build and clips hold everything in place, showcasing the quality that Ninja products are famous for. The Ninja FrostVault is the ultimate esky on the market and can withstand the Australian summer heat.
