Review – Gotham Season 1

Gotham episode 10- ‘Lovecraft’

gotham-1.10-lovecraft-header

Gotham is the origin story behind Detective Jim Gordon and so far it’s served to tell us that Jim Gordon ‘doesn’t know how to walk the line’, at least according to the corrupt mayor. How does he respond to this? Well in the only Gordon appropriate manner of course, ‘you can kiss my ass’.

The city of Gotham and its corrupting police force and public service see Gordon as stupid, they think he’s careless and doesn’t know how to play the game. But something’s stirring and Gordon will be at the forefront of it personally I wouldn’t want to be on the other side of him.

This week we saw Dent and Gordon continue their scrutiny on Lovecraft after a group of assassins attack the Wayne manor and Selina Kyle and Bruce disappear. Convinced that Lovecraft was somehow responsible for the murder of Mr. and Mrs Wayne both Gordon and Dent go after him while Alfred and Bullock hit the streets in search of information. Gordon quickly learns that Lovecraft was the bottom of the food chain but the assassins get to him before he can learn anything else. One of the most notable points of this scenario is Alfred who kicks some serious ass going in guns blazing determined to find Bruce.

Meanwhile Bruce and Selina hit the streets and Bruce leaps across a building in a single bound for the first time (hint hint wink wink). His relationship with Selina grows stronger which eventuates into their first kiss at the end of the episode.

Speaking of the end of the episode, Gotham’s mayor was less than pleased with the death of Lovecraft and he blames Gordon and his righteous crusade. As punishment he demotes him to working as security in the newly re-opened Arkham Asylum for the criminally insane. We can only hope that here we will see him interact with even more eventual villains outside of the already established Penguin, ticking time bomb Riddler, a righteous Two Face and conflicted Cat Woman. Maybe we’ll see some form of the Joker? One can only hope.
