The Mindy Project S04E05 ‘Stay At Home MILF’

The Mindy Project Season 4 Episode 5 ‘Stay at Home MILF’

So now Mindy is a bona fide stay at home MILF (or as Danny sort of correctly guessed, Mom I’d like to french…). At first glance, it looks like Mindy is living the life, chilling on the sofa, aviators on rocking the no pants look. And then Danny fun police comes home and reality sets in, he expects Mindy to take care of every little thing. Of course Mindy understandably freaks out and in only her way, goes overboard.

Citing the website ‘Modern Mominista’ and its antiquated steps to fulfilling your partner and child’s every whim, Mindy goes full Stepford wife. Of course this lasts all of about ten minutes, she’s all dressed up and scrubbing the house with ‘all organic products’ but each step is more impossible than the next (‘by now you should be back from your five mile run and your duck should be ready to come out of the oven’…what?!).

Meanwhile at the office, Jody asks the gang if they know any male suitors for his sister Colette, who is very obviously gay. Of course, Colette confides in Morgan that she isn’t ready to come out to her very proper and old fashioned brother so they decide to pretend to be dating. Of course nothing could possibly go wrong, Morgan won’t fall in love with her or anything, no…
We see Mindy’s housewife montage of cleaning, cooking and dressing up for Danny. Of course by the end of the week and the same meal night after night, Mindy has already had enough and challenges Danny to do the same while she goes to work and takes on his workload.

Mindy instantly sees Colette and Morgan for what they are and has to speak to Colette. She tries to convince Colette to be honest with her brother. Meanwhile, she has to work with Jody throughout the day, doing surgery first thing. She instantly realises how much she has missed work and even starts to like Jody (even just a bit). They have a heart to heart and she decides she wants to go back to work and not stay at home. Meanwhile Danny is struggling, his cocky facade is failing but of course he never lets Mindy know that.

In the end, Colette confesses to Mindy whilst trying to get fashion advice. While talking, she realises they have both been keeping secrets. Cue Colette’s heartfelt and a bit odd coming out to Jody. She thanks her in the end though and Mindy goes home to find a pristine home and Danny painting by the window. She instantly sees through his act though when she finds a towel swan and a hotel quality bed corner. Busted!

This episode, like the season so far, tackles real life issues with aplomb. Realising how hard staying at home is they start to discuss their problems when a phone call interrupts them. Danny’s father has a heart attack and we leave the episode with Danny rushing to fly to Los Angeles to be with him. Mindy makes the plans for him so he doesn’t have to and we see again why Mindy is so good for Danny (and the other way around). Yet again, this show hits home for many a working parent or stay at home parent, but it also keeps it light. Even for those who can’t relate, the show is made watchable by the excellent cast.

Until next week! The Mindy Project is now on Hulu every Tuesday.
