Sources today confirm that 2K Australia are closing their office in Canberra shortly. The studio most recently wowed the world and left an impression with Borderlands : The Pre Sequel, and now apparently due to extravagant costs to keep its base in Australia, the studio will close their doors.
2K Australia was the last major studio operating out of Australia and is a sad loss for the gaming industry in this country. The studio have confirmed that all staff will lose their jobs as part of this closure.
2K spoke with Kotaku about the closure and provided this statement “We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.”
RIP 2K Australia – thanks for the hilarious pre sequel, it will not be forgotten!
