The Weekly Wrap With DC

Hi Gamers, DC here … welcome to the fifth installment of “The Weekly Wrap” – the best place to find everything that’s happened in the wonderful world of gaming over the past seven days!

Well, it’s been a VERY busy week in that gaming world so, without further ado, let’s get stuck into it.

In case you missed it

Sony announced another massive milestone for the PlayStation 4, with the console continuing it’s Worldwide domination of the next-gen war with 30.2 million units shipped! The PS4 is the best selling PlayStation hardware in the companies history, continuing to surpass the sales of the former champion – the PS2.

Bloodborne’s first DLC arrived, much to the anticipation of franchise fans everywhere. The Old Hunters expansion offers all new locations, bosses, weapons and armour. Wondering how to access The Old Hunters DLC? Here’s a quick step by step:

  1. Defeat Vicar Amelia and activate the skull in the Cathedral to turn day into night.
  2. Go to the Hunter’s Dream and receive Eye of a Blood-Drunk Hunter from a messenger.
  3. Go to the Oedon Chapel and leave via the left-hand exit to enter the square.
  4. Go to the right-hand end of the square (where the Hunter Set/Top Hat are located) and the Amygdala will grab you. This will take you to the new area: The Hunter’s Nightmare
  5. Lighting the lamp in the new area will allow you to travel to and from the area via the Hunter’s Nightmare Awakening Headstone in the Hunter’s Dream. It can be found by the Insight Shop, where the Doll will sometimes kneel and pray.

Today marks the release of two pretty massive games in the form of Just Cause 3 and Rainbow Six: Siege. It seems some retailers were just as eager as the gamers to play JC3 with reports that the game has broken street date in countries such as Cairo, Brazil and United Arab Emirates. Lucky recipients of the game even tried streaming gameplay before publisher Square Enix shut it down quickly. Square have had some pretty tight embargo’s in place for reviews and content, but that hasn’t stopped the general public posting images on popular sites like imgur. Take the image below for example, turns out a pretty wicked Marvel easter egg has been spotted in the centre of a huge crater.

“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”
“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power to … grapple.”

December 5-6, San Francisco will host the 2015 PlayStation Experience. As with every major event the speculation and wish lists of gamers everywhere begin to appear on the internet. No doubt on everyone’s list is more details about Sony’s VR, and a firm release date and price for the highly-anticipated hardware? Games people are expecting to see more information about include Gran Turismo Sport, Final Fantasy VII Remake, No Man’s Sky and maybe a formal announcement regarding the backwards compatibility for old-gen games? No matter the announcements you can be sure Novastream will provide a comprehensive summary.

Fans of both Rocket League and Portal will be pleased to hear that Valve Software have partnered to bring officially-licensed customisation items … for free! This awesomeness commences from December 1.

Final Fantasy XV is launching sometime next year and it seems Square Enix and Microsoft have once again partnered (as they did when FFXIII arrived in 2013) to release a Final Fantasy themed Xbox One controller. The controller looks pretty tidy in my opinion, here’s to hoping it makes its way to the West!

...No seriously, take my damn money!

In line with the overhaul of the Xbox One dashboard a few weeks ago, people using the Xbox application on Windows 10 may have noticed a few updates and changes. An upgraded social experience, unifying users Xbox Live and Facebook communities with the release of the Facebook friend finder. You’ll notice the familiar little “f” icon located in your friends column. As more of your FB friends link their account you’ll be able to notify them when you’re playing a game and vice versa. You’ll never be lonely or find yourself waiting for countless minutes to join a ‘Crew’ with randoms again! (See my review of The Crew: Wild Run and it’ll make sense)

December’s Games with Gold have been announced and with the fantastic, splendour that is backwards compatibility, Xbox One owners will be able to play all five titles!

Five for the price of none!

And the nominees are…

The 2015 Game Awards, formerly the Spike Video Game Awards will be crowing a number of winning titles for varied categories on December 3. Gamers are used to the term GOTY being thrown around pretty loosely, but for a long time Spike were considered to be about as legit of an award a game could get. There’s a ton of categories including best Indie game, best shooter, best rpg and of course the most prestigious – Game of the year. I’ll circle back next week and list the winners of each category, but to tide you over here are the nominees for GOTY:

  1. Bloodborne – From Software / Sony Computer Entertainment
  2. Fallout 4 – Bethesda Game Studios / Bethesda Softworks
  3. MGSV: The Phantom Pain – Kojima Productions / Konami
  4. Super Mario Maker – Nintendo
  5. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – CD Projekt Red / Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment
