Half Yearly Report – Top 5 Games of 2022 So Far

It’s been a huge start of the year for the gaming industry. With so many huge hitters and indies, it has been a task to get the best of the best for 2022 so far. Please see below, voted by the games team at Novastream, the top 5 games (in no particular order!) for 2022 so far.

The Quarry

Definitely the biggest surprise of the year. Super Massive games follow up Until Dawn with another star filled horror game, this time taking on the werewolf genre. While the cast, graphics and voice work is spectacular, the ending of the game did leave some feeling not as fulfilled as they thought it should. The thrill of deciding who to let live and who to die is incredibly satisfying and has us looking forward to our next playthrough.

Lego Star Wars : The Skywalker Saga

Open Critic 88%

We are suckers for a good Lego game, even the not so good ones tend to pull us into the fun. The Skywalker Saga manages to pack 9 movies into a super sized open galaxy with the best graphics a Lego game has delivered to date. The standard Lego humour is still at play here, we are still working our way through the many missions and characters to unlock.

Sifu

Open Critic 85%

Do you love kung fu? Do you love a challenge of completing a level without losing a life? Then Sifu might be the game you have been waiting for. With gorgeous graphics and a beautiful soundtrack, Sifu delivered one of our most zen experiences in gaming in a long time.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Shredders Revenge

Open Critic 97%

Seeing a return to retro arcade styles sent us shooting back to our childhoods in the 90’s lining up for the arcade and smashing the joysticks and buttons furiously in an on screen battle. This is replicated at home with co-op for up to 6 players in the pixelated retro world that has been lovingly recreated to perfection. While there wasn’t anything new really offered up here, there was enough to satisfy my craving for games for our younger years. The addition of this being available day one on Xbox Game Pass was another great benefit.

Horizon Zero Dawn : Forbidden West

Open Critic 95%

Following up arguably the most successful game on the Playstation 4 would prove no easy feat. With a brand new hardware model and engine to work with, the Forbidden West and hero Aloy have never looked so beautiful. An engaging sci fi story with a surprising twist keeps this sequel feeling fresh. The captivating open world and creature design help implement a new chapter in this astounding series that will keep you guessing till the very end. This was the perfect showcase for the Playstation 5.

Presence Review

Steven Soderbergh's film Presence offers a unique twist on the haunted house genre, shot entirely from the ghost's perspective. The story follows a family grappling with grief, particularly Chloe, who senses a presence in their home. While the POV technique adds intrigue, the film leans more toward family drama than horror, delivering a slow-burn experience.
