With Halo 5 on the horizon, Microsoft have been hard at work hyping up all things Master Chief in preparation for the big launch. Let’s take a look at what is on the table for the next release.
XBOX & YOUTUBE TEAM UP – HALO 5: LIVE
In a move that almost feels like it should have it’s own comic book, heavyweight giants Xbox and Youtube are teaming up to bring a one-of-a-kind celebration in the hopes of Halo 5: Guardians the biggest launch in Xbox History.
With that in mind, streaming exclusively on YouTube comes a six-hour live broadcast dubbed Halo 5: Live. Kicking off at 9:00 AM AEDT and concluding at 3:00 PM AEDT, coinciding with Halo 5: Guardians going on sale in North America. The broadcast will have a load of special features, including gameplay, celebrity appearances and live interviews with the 343 Industries development team.
Corporate vice president and head of 343 Industries Bonnie Ross stated “‘Halo 5: Guardians’ is the game we have always dreamed of making, and it was important to us that Halo fans in every corner of the world could join us in an epic-scale launch celebration”. It certainly seems they are slated to achieve that goal.

HALO 5: GUARDIANS – LAUNCH TRAILER
Halo 5: Guardians is the most ambitious addition to the US4.6 Billion franchise to this day, bringing together an amazing story, deep character driven narratives and teamwork-centric gameplay. A mysterious and seemingly unstoppable force is plaguing the universe and the Master Chief has gone AWOL. Spartan Locke, the UNSC’s most elite man hunter, is given the task of hunting him down. As this new journey and pursuit unfolds, players can team up in four-player co-op to tackle the new campaign (WHICH SPANS THREE WORLDS!) or turn the battle around head-to-head in all new multiplayer modes.
Hot on the heels of the game going gold, 343 Industries has released a new launch trailer which can be found below (Spoiler alert! IT LOOKS AMAZING!). HALO: THE FALL OF REACH – TRAILER
Told in three connected acts, Halo: The Fall of Reach is an animated series is an adaptation of the fan favourite Eric Nylund novel of the same name. The dramatic tale will tell the story of the origin and secrets of the SPARTAN program which set characters like Dr. Catherine Halsey and the Master Chief himself on their path throughout the Halo universe. You will see the events that brought Master Chief and Blue Team together, including the Spartan training program and their daring mission to strike back at the Covenant during the first days of the alien invasion.
Produced and directed by SEQUENCE, the award-winning Vancouver animation studio responsible for the awesome Terminals found in Halo 4 and Halo 2: Anniversary, this marks their most ambitious and high-fidelity Halo Animation to date.
Halo: The Fall of Reach is included in the Halo 5: Guardians Digital Deluxe Edition, Limited Edition, Limited Collector’s Edition and Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition Xbox One Console. The new series will be available via the Halo Channel on Xbox One, starting when the game launches on October 27th.
HALO 5: GUARDIANS ACHIEVEMENT LIST UNVEILED
Since the days of the Xbox 360, players have gotten that little bit of joy from building up their gamerscore with the familiar bleep bloop and pop-up message dubbing “Achievement Unlocked”. Halo 5: Guardians was no different.
Perusing the achievement list, you will find you are tasked with tackling the toughest of campaign challenges, creative team formations, collecting ONI intel, making magic in multiplayer, showing Warzone who’s boss and much, much more.

XBOX GAME PREVIEW PROGRAM UPDATES
Back in June during the Xbox E3 Media Briefing, the team from Microsoft announced the Xbox Game Preview Program which allows Xbox gamers to download, evaluate and provide feedback on upcoming games still in development.
Xbox are proud to announce the first title to graduate from preview to official, final release. Elite: Dangerous is an open-universe space flight simulator. This game will takes takes the idea of space exploration to a whole new level charting new routes to star systems, hunt space pirates, team up with new friends online or become a black market trader. The universe is in your hands.
Currently on preview is Hinterlad Games’ open-world survival simulation game The Long Dark, recently receiving a large update of new content. The newest update gives access to a new area called “Desolation Point”, which will task you with exploring the abandoned remnants of a once-thriving whaling industry. Along with the new area, the update overhauls the weather transition systems, adds a foraging and forging of materials, multiple save support and a more polished user interface.
Developers Unicube and Team17 are launching a new update for Sheltered, their awesome survival/strategy game, that tasks you with keeping you and your family alive in the wake of a global apocalyptic event. Developers are aiming to release a new update every fortnight with bug fixes and community-requested changes. Four major updates are planned, the first of which is slated for October and will feature new quests and scenarios.
Finally, two new games are being inducted into the program. The first is Layers of Fear, a title from Bloober Team that tells the psychedelic horror story of a mad painter on a mission to create his life’s masterpiece. You will peace together his story by exploring his world and examining personal items, peeling back the layers of fear and horror that entwine the protagonist. The second game, titled Solus Project, is coming to the program in early 2016 from Teotl Studios and GRIP Digital. Harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 4, Solus Project tells the story of a lone researcher stranded on a hostile alien planet. Your team is dead, your equipment is destroyed and now you are left working out how to survive long enough to call for help. Who knows? You may even discover some ancient alien secrets along the way.
