Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: “One Door Closes”-TV Review

“One Door Closes” is an episode not to be missed for fans of the show. This is a significant step forward in the overall story of the show so far. Bobbi and Mack’s arc comes to a head as we finally see the “Real S.H.I.E.L.D.” come into action as well as a first debut into Skye really using her Inhuman powers in combat in a rather earth-shattering way. This episode also features Skye meeting the mysterious Inhuman Gordon for the very first time.

After the events that have transpired in “Love In The Time Of Hydra” we see a huge progression with the “Real S.H.I.E.L.D.” deciding to make a move
AOS3on Coulson’s team. This instance offered different kind of action scenes from the usual. From what anyone can see, this organization are not the bad guys that some think they might be. It was rather sad to see friend turn against friend while at the same time hopelessly try to rescue them from the danger, only to still have distrust with their fellow comrades. I certainly liked how they didn’t mess around with getting to the good stuff right away.

AOS2Audiences can find themselves sympathizing with the “Real S.H.I.E.L.D.”, especially with the flashbacks to the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. You see an origin of them operating as a real unit as they face down the overwhelming HYDRA forces and you would sympathize with their losses. It was an interesting addition to the events that transpired before, especially with the character arc of Robert Gonzalez (Edward James Olmos). We get some character development as we learn that he’s “a good man” who was once a ship captain following Nick Fury’s orders only to take charge himself. I’m not sure what their intentions are in the long run but they can’t all be that bad right?

It was great to see that this arc and Skye’s arc finally converge in a significant way. Earlier we had a new glimpse into the new character Gordon (Jamie Harris). It was interesting seeing his arc start to come to full circle as seeing as Skye’s mother who was also Inhuman helped him understand who he was. Viewers will also feel the same sort of reaction Skye did as she finally directed her vibration manipulation powers at those attacking her. It was certainly a cool visual spectacle seeing the shock waves emanate from her hands. Chloe Bennet’s face afterward perfectly summed up what kind of reaction anyone would have. I can’t wait to see what happens next with her and Gordon.
