The who’s who of Australian entertainment turned up in their best last night for the 2017 Melbourne International Film Festival. Well except for Stephen Curry’s brother, Andrew, who wore possibly the greatest trousers ever created. Despite the continuous rain Melbourne had to offer the show as they say went on.
MIFF opened with the world premiere of a true story of survival, Jungle. Directed by the mastermind behind the Wolf Creek series and that unforgettable character Mick. If that’s not good enough reason to check the film out during the festival, Daniel Radcliffe leads the cast. That’s a pretty good reason.
The beauty of Radcliffe and the films he works on is this: he doesn’t need to work. So when he picks a film you know he is going to bring everything he has and make it worthy of watching. Not to mention it’s filled with a wonderful Australian cast as well.
Geoffrey Rush led the Blue Carpet as this years MIFF Patron followed by a stream of famous faces, including the cast and crew of Jungle. Minus Radcliffe, those who attended the opening night and sipped on the Grey Goose Le Fizz could also meet Yossi Ghinsberg who the story of Jungle is based on.
Starting the festival at the beautiful Regent Theatre in Melbourne the festivities are spread right over the city with screenings at your favourite cinemas, theatres and galleries.
The festival runs until August 20 with over 300 films to pick from. Aside from a good amount of Australian film to get your local fix there are hours worth of International gems to feast your eye on.
