Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them Still Newt-Less

A little bit of non-Daredevil news from Warner Bros today about the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

It’s still without a male lead, worryingly so, with an intended release date this time next year. A story was devised by J.K. Rowling herself about the specifically British magizoologist Newt Scalamander that travelled around the world chronicling marvellous fauna and flora for what would later be a Hogwarts textbook. Matt-Smith-art_1588191c

Director of Harry Potter 6, 7 &David Yates will be directing once he’s finished the live action Tarzan starring Alexander Skasgard and Margot Robbie. Err, also with a 2016 release date. Is anyone paying this movie the proper attention?

The internet has universally agreed upon former Doctor Who actor Matt Smith as the lead role. He’s qualified, appearing in Ryan Gosling’s How To Catch A Monster and Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genysis after his tenure at the BBC. eddie-redmayne-migliore-attore-oscar-2015_980x571

Warner Bros. are determined to rattle the cage with rumblings of Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne in talks for the lead part. Redmayne’s quite good too – a ridiculously realistic Stephen Hawking in the biopic Theory of Everything and a camp but formidable arch-villain in the Waschowskis latest romp Jupiter Ascending.

Still, Matt Smith is the obvious pick. More news as it comes.
