Trailer – Nightmare Alley

After sweeping the Oscars with 2017’s The Shape of Water, filmmaking icon, Guillermo del Toro, is back with another darkly stylistic film in Nightmare Alley.

When charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena (Toni Collette) and her has-been mentalist husband Pete (David Strathairn) at a traveling carnival, he crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society. With the virtuous Molly (Rooney Mara) loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon (Richard Jenkins) with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who might be his most formidable opponent yet.

Once again, del Toro’s visual style is outstandingly captivating. From the eye-catching camerawork and colour scheme to aid the brooding nature of the story, Nightmare Alley looks to be another winner from the award-winning filmmaker. Accompanied by a tense score from composer Nathan Johnson (Knives Out), and with a stellar cast including Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett and Willem Dafoe – it should be no shock if this is another film from del Toro that gets a lot of buzz this awards season.
