5 Actors And Superheroes (and villains) That Were Not Meant To Be

Superhero films are big. And it’s fandom even bigger. So when news of new movies come out, it leaves the net buzzing with the latest updates of who’s playing who. In the name of April Fools, here’s a look back at some superhero (and villain) candidates who had our hopes up but didn’t quite fit the bill:

John Krasinski as Captain Americacap1

Back in 2010, the news of Captain America had gotten out and the net was buzzing with possible candidates to play the First Avenger. John Krasinski was a wildcard and was received with mixed reviews. It would have undoubtedly been interesting to see him don the cap and shield but perhaps the jump from The Office funny man to super soldier was too much for some fans to grasp.

Jon Hamm as SupermanHammSuperman_color

Before the Man of Steel cast announcement, TMT said that Warner Bros was “seriously considering” Jon Hamm to play Superman. It only fuelled rumours when Armie Hammer of The Social Network fame told Vulture.com that the movie intended for a middle aged hero. Looking back, Hamm believes he made the right call finding the contract deals “Draconian” as he would have had to sign on for at least two more movies plus crossovers.

Bryan Cranston as Lex LuthorBryan-Cranston-wanted-for-Lex-Luthor-620x513

The actor famously known as Walter White was a favourite among speculators to play the villain in Batman vs Superman after the news of Ben Affleck as Batman had gotten out. “I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald,” Cranston told the Boston Globe regarding rumours that the Breaking Bad star had signed on for six movie deals. Sorry, not Heisenberg, Eisenberg.

Johnny Depp as The RiddlerJohnny_Depp_as_The_Riddler_by_CreativeJuiciz

The bar was sky high for superhero movie villains after Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker. So much so that Hollywood’s biggest names were speculated to play the next villains in The Dark Knight sequel. Talk of Depp went alongside rumours of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman to play The Penguin.

Paul Rudd as Ant-Man

April Fools! Paul Rudd is Ant-Man. But for a while some considered Joseph Gordon-Levitt as both actors were frontrunners for the role.
