Bethesda | E3 Recap

As one of my favourite studios, the guys behind Fallout and the Elder Scrolls – Bethesda this year are hosting a first ever E3 Press Event. I watched it and here are the cliff notes!

DOOM

Bethesda opened up with Doom. The reboot we all knew was coming. Doom will feature a heavy single player campaign which has the looks of today and the nostalgia of times past. A campaign full of hellish monsters, sickening finishing moves and guns, lots of guns…They plan on taking players to hell and back in this beautiful looking reimagining of the old classic.

It doesn’t end with the campaign though, Bethesda also announced that they are bringing multiplayer to Doom. Billed as arena style multiplayer with modes such as domination, CTF and many more. The fans of the franchise are going to be happy, iD software though seem to have done nothing other than ‘jump on the bandwagon’ here though.

What is interesting is a player creation tool, Doom Snap Map. Mods! Mods! Mods! Bethesda know how to do mods…this is again interesting but  is nothing we haven’t seen in shooters before, Halo Forge anyone?

BATTLECRY

Remember that game Bethesda showed last year? Well the Beta registration is open now. Get in before June 18th for access! With the game confirmed to launch later this year on PC and Mac <link> Queue in game footage and it’s playable on the show floor…that’s it?

DISHONORED 2

dishonored-II

Another wildly rumoured game to be coming to E3, what is a surprise anyway? Incredible trailer, a Batcave? And a female protagonist by the name of Emily. Finally a young lady taking centre stage. The empire of the isles is in trouble once more from a new usurper and as the player its all up to you to save the land from threat. This time you can play as Corvo or Emily, again it’s possible to play the entire  game with or without killing people. No date for release but…

Dishonored becomes the first ‘definitive edition’  game to be announced at E3 to get a ‘definitive edition’ Including all of the DLC, you know just to keep you busy in the meantime.

ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE

A peek at what’s coming next to Tamriel this year! The Imperial city and Orismun (Orc Kingdom, looks a bit GOT.) Lastly the dark brotherhood! Just a logo of the bloody hand.

There’s more!

ELDER SCROLLS LEGENDS

Strategy card game, trailer shown and a whimper from the audience. Hearthstone Clone…move on

FALLOUT 4

Everyone got super excited as Todd Howard came to stage. He did some talking about the last ten years of Bethesda and shows tonnes of concept art for Fallout 4.

The game will start before the bombs fall. In a land which is threatened by nuclear war. They proceeded to show off the character creator with quirky replies coming from your in game wife. No sliders just in game sculpting. You can play male or female. It has to be said graphically the character models still look very ‘Bethesda’ and not totally next gen. The environments though, look beautiful. Codsworth your little house robot can even say your name…if you have one of the most popular 1000 or so they’ve recorded.

No story content to be shown or discussed at E3. Other than you obviously survive the nuke and enter the world of Fallout 4. Queue dog, queue applause. He will even fetch you stuff from the world like a real pooch!

Limb targeting returns from Fallout 3! New Pip Boy! With built in arcade games! Guess what? You can have a REAL one if you buy the collectors edition! (Smart Phone required) Companion app tie in…second screens are so last year but at least Todd takes the mic himself.

FALLOUT SHELTER

Mobile game, create and view your own vault. Think the sims but with you managing a Fallout Vault rather than a city. They’ve clearly done the best they can to make this game tongue in cheek. Best part about it is, no paywalls…but certainly micro-transactions.

Available Today on Apple App store.

BACK TO FALLOUT 4

You can build your own workshop! Build, decorate and live in a home designed by you. From here you will begin building your settlement, other survivors will begin to arrive and populate this settlement. Bethesda have really pushed out all of the stops when it comes to personalising your experience. Make sure your settlements are protected your way!

It doesn’t stop with building buildings it flows into weapon crafting too. Every item will have a purpose in the game every material can be scrapped and used elsewhere. Turning base weapons into your own personal variant! Barbwire baseball bat? Plasma sniper rifle? Yep.

Power Armor mods? They are a thing too!

Bethesda continue to do what they do best, let you play your way in an absolutely huge world. Although in a bleak setting Fallout 4 certainly looks incredibly fun!

FALLOUT 4 – NOVEMBER 10TH 2015

IN CLOSING

For a first attempt they did a great job. Doom personally seems underwhelming, Dishonored looks great but very meh regarding the definitive edition. Elder Scrolls is getting some new areas which is exciting but the card game did little to get any reaction.

Fallout 4 stole the show. Rightfully so and its coming this year! November 10th. Book a month off work! Do it now!
