PAX Australia 2023 may be over, but there is plenty still to do, like relax and recover, but also wishlist all your favourite Indies from the expo show floor. Wishlisting is the best way to support indie developers as it not only drives Steam to show the game to more people. But directly helps developers gauge the game’s interest to publishers for funding. Here is a list of the best indies we played at PAX AUS that you should check out.
Broken Roads
Broken Roads is a narrative-driven RPG set in the Australian Outback. The game appears to be influenced heavily by the Wasteland series, and I’m personally excited to see what an RPG like this set in Australia looks like. During my hands-on time with the game, I accidentally killed someone (my companions were very unhappy), pushed a sheep through a fence, and made questionable moral choices. Broken Road’s moral compass and origin stores look to make this title one worth checking out on November 14th when it is released.
Bears In Space is a comedic FPS where your DNA has been merged with a bear, allowing you to find robots with an impressive array of weapons or your Bear Fu skills; need I say more? Bears In Space is overflowing with comedic moments and zany characters that put an almost meta spin on common video game tropes. With tight FPS controls and fast-paced combat, there is much to love here.
While Animal Crossing-style sim games are popping up everywhere, Go Go Town! stands out from the crowd with an incredible art and animation style. As Mayor of a small town, you can construct shops, hire staff, automate deliveries with couriers, and attract tourists to town. If you’ve wanted to return to a modern-day take on Animal Crossing New Leaf, check out Go Go Town!
Enotria: The Last Song is a soulslike inspired by Italian folklore. Soulslike live or die by the quality of their combat systems, Enotria: The Last Song has tight, responsive controls and a satisfying parry system that’s easy to learn and hard to master. Exactly the ingredients for a quality soulslike. Enotria: The Last Song also has unique role-altering masks that can be switched to in combat to change your playstyle completely—a title to watch for any souls fan.
