Phillip Noyce, Director of ‘Rabbit-Proof Fence’ to grace Brisbane International Film Festival with exclusive Luncheon and Film Screening

The Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) is thrilled to announce a cinematic extravaganza featuring legendary Australian film and television director Phillip Noyce. As part of BIFF’s 2023 program, Noyce will be joining the festival for two exclusive events.

Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 1:00 pm, BIFF23 presents the Queensland Premiere presentation of the restored and remastered version of Philip Noyce’s Rabbit-Proof Fence. This iconic film, celebrating its 20th anniversary, is known for its powerful narrative and compelling performances, shedding light on the Stolen Generation in Australian history.

Following the screening, the audience will have the rare opportunity to engage in an enlightening Q&A session with Director Philip Noyce. The discussion will be expertly moderated by Dr. Nell Greenwood, CEO of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), offering an in-depth exploration of the film’s creation and its enduring impact.

The restoration of Rabbit-Proof Fence was a meticulous process, ensuring that this cinematic gem shines brighter than ever. The original camera negative, entrusted to the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, scanned at 4K resolution using an Arriscan XT by The Grainery, Australia. It was frame by frame restored by The Grainery, USA and regraded in HDR by Gosia Grzyb under the supervision of director Phillip Noyce.

Friday, October 27, 2023, from 12:00 noon, film enthusiasts are invited to be part of the BIFF family at a special luncheon at Brisbane’s renowned Tattersall’s Club, attendees will have the privilege of hearing Phillip Noyce’s insights on the current state of the film and TV industry in Australia and worldwide.

The luncheon will feature an in-depth interview with Phillip Noyce, conducted by producer Ian Sutherland from Origin Productions and attendees will gain valuable insights into Noyce’s illustrious career and the ever-evolving world of cinema.

The event will also provide an opportunity for the audience to engage in a Q & A session with Phillip Noyce, allowing for a deeper exploration of the industry and his experiences.
